I was in love with this Daryl Hannah image by Helmut Newton.
and this is what is missing the most today in this business.
Because a picture can be good or a photographer can be the best about tech skills and know how, but if that same image has no personality well it’s just another page the reader and the viewer want to flip or click soonest possible. Just something too normal to get any attention.
So, if I keep on saying in the last 10 years that we miss like never before the ad campaigns or the fashion editorials signed by Avedon or Newton… this was the reason.
Those images had a lot of personality that when you were flipping a magazine you were able to recignoze the style and the author of those images. Yes like saying “this campaign must have been shot by Newton… that’s his style”.
Nothing to do with the aperture or the ISO but just with the creativity. And a picture with personality can really be a great shot.
So, maybe better to take attention at the best cameras depending on the budget we have because we want to have the best quality at the end, even if our job has only web clients. We must pretend the best quality, we cannot ask ourself to be always satisfied about a 12 MP from our iPhones.
But after the quality the photo tool can give back we must save on that sensor our own personality in every single shot we take.
Otherwise every image is just a copy and paste of something already done.
