I used to live in Miami different times in my life and during my career as a photographer. But my very first experiences are the ones I will always remember. Because we were at the beginning of the 90s and I was there ready to have the experiences I was looking and hoping for in this job.
So, every single job, even bringing coffee on a set was good for me. Just to be able to approach the right people in the right place to learn as much as possible… and Miami Beach was the place to be for every magazine in the world and only a few hours from NYC.
It was full of models, supermodels, talents like hair stylists and make up artists and photographers like myself looking for an opportunity, only one.
People like Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh and Patrick Demarchelier were our idols in those years and I was lucky enough to be on location so many times just as another NO1 bringing coffee or helping with the cables.
Today I got the news were even Patrick Demarchelier left this life and that’s the sad side of this story. They are all gone. But I like to think at what’s left behind… and I can tell you, they inspired so many generations with their jobs that I feel blessed for that.
Photography in those years was well different with no internet and no digital, no courses online and no youtube. It was hard even just thinking to get 1 little chance. All we had was creativity fuelled by any kind of inspiration and photographers like Patrick Demarchelier helped a lot in the process.
