It’s been 20 years, and we are still missing probably the most talented fashion designer I’ve ever met in my life.
When I started shooting fashion in the 90s and I was in Milan I did it because I was in love with whatever was image composition, style and beauty. I was in love with the campaigns by Avedon and Newton but also I was in love with clothes and dresses I was looking at in the fashion magazines. And I’m sorry to tell you I was probably much more in love with the scenes, with the style, with the clothes and with the models than with the photography itself.
That’s why I never wanted to be a photography guru, I wanted to be one day an image creator, putting all of those details together.
I believe what Donatella has done in the last 20 years was just amazing. It was not easy at all to be in that position. But she made it and we must have respect for that.
I was a fashion photographer even for some of the Versace’s clothes, some masterpieces. And yes, I miss those years.
But most of all I strongly believe that the fashion industry has never found such a talent like Gianni in the last 20 years.
He was pure inspiration for the young generations and we should bring back the fashion industry in that same direction. No matter what.
And every time I’m in Miami Beach I can’t stop thinking while driving in front of his villa, what happened that fuc…. day in 1997.
Because of you, Gianni Versace, we still miss you a lot.
