Like always we all need to warm up and photography both in front or behind the camera doesn’t make any difference.
Some take only a few minutes, some need more time, but it’s always worth it.
I need a huge cup of coffee in the morning and some good music for example.
Some years ago when I was assisting some famed photographers in Miami Beach I remember they asked me to leave the camera without films (yes, we still had films and slides).
All because they wanted to let the model get the right time needed to warm up and be ready for the shooting. So they were shooting with no films inside the camera.
I’ve always been thinking “with the budget you have you don’t really need to make this escamotage, even because you can get a good one in the middle and if you don’t have the film inside the camera you’re going to regret what you did…” But as you probably know, photographers are that kind of human species that feel blessed and superheroes and they don’t really want an assistant telling them what could probably be better.
Today with the digital world there’s no need anymore to do like that, but we still need time to get what we need.
It’s a matter of feeling, you know and you see when she’s ready, but mostly… you feel it.
