We had a stunning visitor on location today. Maco is a 3 months old Nandu.
A gray cat slinks past a wooden house.
There’s something a little intimidating attempting to describe.

I am that kind of a morning person… wherever I am, I feel like I need to wake up early and enjoy the sunlight. Laying in bed waiting for the time to pass over me… it’s not exactly my thing. And photography helped me a lot about that. I always felt every single day in my life at least in the last 33 years to have a passion stronger than anything else that pushed me to jump out of my bed with the same passion… every day. ????????

I’ve always been in love with the aerial photography and in today’s world we can’t have a commercial, a movie or a tv show without some drone images. At least I’m talking at the high level. And if yesterday we only had the chance to take images from up in the air with helicopters, today we can have the same stunning results and quality with a drone. And yes, you need a licence and a certificate to fly a drone and I think it’s right. At least I invested in some good time while in lockdown… ????

One of the great challenges in this world is knowing enough about a subject to think you are right… but not enough about the subject to know you are wrong – Neil deGrasse Tyson
I’ve been living the life I used to dream when I was young. I reached my goals and I was flying between London and LA in first class at least 4 times a month. I used to have my reserved room in some of the most luxurious hotels in the world and seriously in those years I’ve been living in hotels more than in a real house or apartment.
But something was missing. I didn’t feel complete. I mean, when I was 20 and 30 that was a dream life. Working hard between Miami Beach and NYC, jumping to LA and back in 24 hours and being ready for a shooting in Paris the morning after. Well, something was missing. I was running every day like crazy, it was never enough. My managers pressed me to do more and more, to make more and more money because everything is related with money in this business.
Well, one day I said “That’s ok, I did my best, I reached my dreams, now I can stop for awhile”. And even with penalties to pay, I decided it was the perfect time to stop.
Now I live at the farm and because of the coronavirus I spend the most part of my time home. I even built my own studio in one of the labs inside the same farm.
Well, I feel home, I feel satisfied, I feel happy but most of all I feel alive.
I deconstructed my life step by step in the last 10 years. I embraced minimalism and meditation and my life changed like I wanted it to change.

I started reading about healthy life even if with my daughter we cook hamburgers at the barbecue every weekend and I keep fighting with my diet…????????
Of course I will always travel and work in LA or London but now I can manage my own professional life with managers and agents that respect my needs.
I live off the grid and I don’t need anything else in my life.

I’ve been living in London, NYC, Paris, LA, Miami in the last 30 years but I was born in Milan and when you grow up in the fashion capitol of the world in the 90s, you gotta have some kind of connection with fashion.
To me, fashion gave me the opportunity to see the world behind the lens of the style and it’s been such an amazing trip. Because of that, every single shot I take I know even if I don’t want, I’ll take a special look at the fashion aspect, at the style and at the make up and hair style, just so you know…????
the best definition I’ve found: in chaos theory, the butterfly effect is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state of a deterministic nonlinear system can result in large differences in a later state. … A very small change in initial conditions had created a significantly different outcome.
I’m in love with this theory and I’ve always been thinking that there must be some kind of truth within those words. ????
I think it was 1994. A French magazine sent me in LA to take some photos of the Beverly Hills 90210 cast. No other photographers were available, it was the end of july and everyone was ready to go on holiday. So, I took my flight from Paris to LA and I was supposed to be back in 3 days.
They booked some of the cast for a few minutes between one cut and another. Most interior scenes were filmed in a warehouse complex in Van Nuys, California, located on Calvert Street. So, I moved there and I had my pictures by the end of the day.
In those years the BH90210 was like a bible for the most part of the young people around the world. How to wear a t-shirt or a jeans, how to walk and how to act was part of the game for a full generation. Living in LA and in Beverly Hills was a must but too much expensive for a regular guy from Italy like me.
Well, the day after the shooting, I booked an express courier, I sent the images back to Paris and I never left LA for the following 2 months.
And because of the style and everything about the 2 most iconic members of the cast I took these images of Jason Priestley and others with Luke Perry walking towards the sunset. They’ve been super nice with me and I still remember that day. After that day I met Luke a couple of times in LA because we had a friend in common and we’ve been laughing about the first time we met on the BH90210 set.
There are things in this life that nothing and no-one will ever take away from us and let me tell you I’ve been using those kind of memories to never give up, even in my worst times ever, even when you have no money in your pocket on the other side of the world because you believe in your dreams and no matter what you wanna reach your goals.

Well, you know it, what happens in Vegas… I’m not a gambler, I’ve always been in Vegas for work, not even 1 time for fun. We usually stay at the Bellagio when we have a set in the city. And what I love the most is that you can go out for an early morning walk or jog and you see the Eiffel Tower, the Caesars Palace, the artists still dressed up while they are going to sleep after a working night. I love this place, it looks like being in another world.
If you’ve ever been in Miami, you know for sure that there are thousands of choices in terms of locations.
You just have to pick the one you prefer. You need a permit, the insurance and you have to declare where you are going to shoot.
But you can’t really be in Miami to shoot fashion in a studio, an indoor studio, I think it’s crazy, with nonsense.
That’s why when people ask me where’s my studio in Miami, I love to say that I have plenty of studios with natural light. My agent has an office and like 25 mins from that office we are in Key Biscayne where it’s even much better than any other indoor studio. I think I’m gonna print t-shirts with “Natural light rocks” written on. ????

It’s ok when everybody is telling you that is so much easy and relaxing to work with Joey Shaw… but this is a little too much. Falling asleep on my set just because the carpet was amazing… ☺️????

But to be honest… that carpet looked really so much comfortable. And then, I must tell you the truth, Gabriela has NOT HUMAN eyes, with a superpower to kill everybody who’s staring at her.
But it was ok, I’m still alive and thank you for sending me these pics ????

This image was taken in Miami Beach, Florida, for a fashion editorial and it was my last slide. After that shooting I moved to digital cameras and just came back on slides and films only for personal projects.
I still remember that day, I think it was like 16 years ago or something like that and of course I miss slides and even more films in my daily job.
It’s ok when you begin to do this job, but when you are on a set in 2021 and something is wrong about sizes, I really freak out. I mean, we can’t fail when we have everything to be perfect on location.
On a set for a fashion editorial is never the less than 25.000 USD a day. We can’t fail. There’s something that never has to happen.
Otherwise not just the photographer, but everyone on location has to adapt to solve the problem. As I said, at this level I can’t accept that mistake. ????

I professionally grew up as a fashion photographer. Every single photographer in Milan in the 90s was a fashion photographer.
So, I just followed the wave because I’ve always been very passionate about fashion and style and that was just my chance to show what I had in mind.
Well, when you are 13-15-17 in a country like Italy and you like fashion and style you just give a chance to everybody to have fun with you. They call you gay (even if you are not) and they judge you all the time. BUT that was my daily school against stupidity and ignorance. I learned how to never listen to other people judging and bullying and that helped me a lot in my career and in my life.

of course, I love digital and a lot of things connected to digital photography. But let me tell you, I miss my polas.
We used to take polaroids on every set, right after the makeup, the hairstyle, the styling was done, ready to start shooting, with those relaxed and private faces… not the ones you saw later in a magazine.
Here’s an old polaroid shot with a Mamiya in Key Biscayne, Florida.
My agents said that we had hundreds of emails and requests in a few hours.
Most of those mails are asking if there are more pictures from the reportage at the Zoom Turin in Italy and where to look at:
here you have it with a gallery:
