It all started that day, on January the 1st, 1827.
I could spend days in a darkroom developing my films as I did 25 years ago… But today we have a lightroom and even if it will never be like the darkroom it’s a fantastic way to edit our images. And if you can do it using tools like my Wacom Cintiq, everything is gonna be perfect for the whole night.

I’ve been spending so many days at the Shelborne in South Beach in the last 20 years. They have a perfect business room for the castings and they have some of the most adorable 2 floor apartments close to the pool that you can really fall in love with. A few steps from the beach and the ocean and right in the middle of South Beach. I can’t tell you that this hotel is the best for a holiday time in Florida, but for sure it is perfect for the ones doing my job.
Who’s not missing south beach in some ways..? I do, as I miss the time I was living there between Lauderdale by the sea and the Shelborne in SB. and while driving down the road I used to listen Everybody Hurts by REM… so many times that I was and I’m still addicted.
and at the end of the day, the working day, you realise that you still have a lot fo work to do with the editing guys. it’s just funny when you ask them for a beer and they say yes of course and you know you are on location and they are in NYC, connected via Skype…
one of the things that is pissing me off.
this is a job where you travel everyday, a single budget could be a lot of money, and when I say a lot I really mean a lot.
and the last thing you need and you deserve is to have unprofessional people on location.
When you decide to have the right job for a new face you know she or he can’t be experienced enough to save you time and stress. But it’s part of the game, and sometimes a new face is the perfect choice and you are ready to be more patient.
But when it comes for the 95% of the jobs when your casting manager booked a professional model, you expect to have a pro on location.
Of course like everybody I experienced this mistake in the past, considering that any pretty girl can be a model. That was 25 years ago. during the years, mostly before I had a casting manager, I did my wrong choices but at the end it was always a terrible mistake.
Unprofessional model can kill the day and f..k the job.
Professional models coming from serious agencies can really make your day and they can just help you to reach the best quality ever.
Never make the mistake to think and to tell any pretty girl that she can be a model, because it’s the biggest lie ever.
Modeling is a very serious and stressful job. Becoming a professional model is just something that is not for every girl.
when I had the option for this shooting about vampires, I still remember I said “again?”
There was a moment when everyone wanted to make at least 1 editorial with the vampires.
It was even boring for how many around we had.
I remember it was since the Interview with the Vampire that we were not talking about them.
but then some years ago the Twilight saga came and they appeared from who knows where and they were everywhere.
It was funny, even if too much. It’s just sad to say it but where the hell are they gone?
I kinda miss them.
you are just too tired for everything. You can’t wait to take a shower, check tomorrow’s schedule and get some rest watching a movie while you eat a sandwich.

All I know is that one day you wake up and everything you need is right there, parked in your garage.
You just beed to turn it on, and ride, wherever, whatever, for how long you need it.
It’s a strong feeling where the huge sense of freedom that we all have is just taking the lead.
All you need to do is to follow your instinct and let the ride bring your freedom back.
don’t tell me you never dreamed a bedroom like this one. Because if you don’t, well that means that you could even imagine it in your best dreams.
a fantastic bed, double size. a stunning relaxing sofa and a magic Jacuzzi.

I was wondering in the last days after a journalist asked me what is the place in the world where I’ve been spending the most of my time…
now I have the answer: it’s over the clouds, in the last 25 years it’s been the place I’ve been spending the most part of my time.
it’s been great for the frequency flyers program and for the miles I can use like presents for friends, but it’s been hard for my feelings.
when you are young with no money in your pocket, dreaming to be a photographer one day and to travel the world, you don’t think about the disadvantages making that choice.
This life is amazing! My job is the best in the world! Yes, don’t tell it to the people I left behind, the feelings I was forced to cancel and whatever comes with a normal life.
But this is life, isn’t it? Whatever you get in your life, there’s always a price to pay for.
when you travel all alone, when your destination is pretty unknown and where everyone is waiting for you to take the last decision.
I know, I’m not living a regular life, but as someone said the most important thing is in not having regrets.
I do what I love the most since 20 years as a professional photographer.
I’ve seen the whole world, I’ve been traveling the most part of my life and I met some of the most incredible people in this world, famous or not, who cares?
When it all comes in front of my camera, everything turns out to be magic, every day, every location, every subject.
And here we are, waiting for my bag, and ready for a new day, a new life.
Because in some ways doing this job, inventing stories every day it’s like living a new life every single day.
And I love it so much.

Since when I started with photography in 1988 with my first Praktica camera I’ve always been obsessed with a couple of things: the Ansel Adam’s Zone System and the Rule of Thirds.
At the beginning to my point of view it was a rule for me, today it’s just the way my eyes see the world.
Please note that there’s nothing in everything like art, photography included, that we must maintain with unique rules that we all must follow. If you take photography in this way, you are far away from inspiration and creativity.
That said, I must admit that the rule of thirds was in my brain, or even better in my eyes, giving me a better understanding of the perception I see the world around me, long time before I knew about it.
I just gave this stuff a name and a reason.
Yes, the most part of the images where the attention goes exactly (or very close) where the lines intersect giving life to the rule of thirds, those are the images catching the majority of the attention from the viewers.
The funny side of the story is that someone tried to give it an explanation.
My answer is a smile a huge one, because it’s just the way we see the world together with the visual weight of the images.
Nothing magic, it’s just the way our eyes catch whatever is around us when we put it in a frame or a slide.
Everybody taking pictures starts really soon looking at the world around divided in thirds before any single picture will be taken.
Nothing nerdy, even less magical, nothing difficult, it’s just the way we elaborate what we see using our eyes and we process that vision inside our brain.
Now, like whatever in photography, there’s not a must to follow this rules.
It’s just a way to better understand and learn about photography and the way we elaborate images though photography.
It’s part of the artistic and creative process, but it’s not part of our inspiration.
